Hi Mark,
after the cocoon 2.2 update the xmlui is not more able to manage "big" file upload (> 100Kb).
I have found this thread that should solve the issue but I'm not enought expert of coocon to do it myself:

Good thread to identify what needs to happen with the configuration, I believe we need to process the cocoon.xconf and pull out any relevant details about file upload for example and do a test of various file sizes to verify its working correctly.

Ok, I've verified the configuration of properties using WEB-INF/cocoon/properties/core.properties is functional and copied all defaults into place so that its clear where these are to be correctly configured now.
